Jamie Dimon denies Trump endorsement claim

  • Jamie Dimon denied Donald Trump’s claim that the JPMorgan Chase CEO endorsed him.
  • Trump has previously agonized over whether Dimon could have a place in his cabinet.
  • Meanwhile, Dimon supported Elon Musk’s idea for government efficiency under the Trump administration.

Jamie Dimon did not endorse Donald Trump — despite what the former president wrote on social media.

The Republican presidential candidate posted a photo on Truth Social of Dimon on Friday with the caption above, “New: JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon Endorsed Trump for President,” along with a red mermaid emoji.

But a JPMorgan Chase spokesperson told Business Insider, “Jamie Dimon has not endorsed any candidate.”

It’s unclear where the original claim came from or what motivated Trump to post it. His campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

As the election season prepared, Dimon has so far remained on the sidelines as business leaders weighed in on the two main contenders.

Some, like billionaire Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, have thrown their wealth and support behind Trump, while others, like Mark Cuban, have backed his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump praised — and insulted — Dimon during the 2024 general election.

In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek conducted in June and published in July, the former president said he would consider Dimon for a seat in his cabinet if re-elected in November.

“I have a lot of respect for Jamie Dimon,” Trump told reporters, adding that “He’s someone I would consider, for sure,” when Bloomberg suggested the possibility of giving Dimon the role of Treasury secretary.

Then, a week after Bloomberg published his interview with Trump, the former president wrote on Truth Social that he didn’t know who said he would consider Dimon for a role in his cabinet, adding that he never considered at Dimon or never discussed Dimon. the role of Secretary of the Treasury.

Trump wasn’t always fond of Dimon; the former president once called it “highly overrated globalist“While accusing Dimon of supporting his primary opponent, Nikki Haley.

Dimon, meanwhile, defended Trump’s supporters earlier this year and said the former president was “kind of right” about some of his policy positions.

“He is right about NATO. Kind of immigration justice,” Dimon said during an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” in January. “He grew the economy pretty well. Tax reform worked. He was right about some in China.”

Last week, Dimon endorsed an idea of government surveillance first floated by Musk during a live stream with Trump on X.

Dimon said in a interview with CNBC-TV18 that he liked the idea of Trump forming a new one government efficiency commission if he were to win the White House again in November.

“I think governments need to become more efficient, more competent,” he said. “And look, when I take money, what I get for it. I actually think it’s a very good idea.”

And in that interview, Dimon emphasized that he wasn’t making an endorsement “at this time.”

“I spend more time with politics,” he said. “What is the policy that we need that can really help the world both with foreign policy and domestically?”
