Alisson Becker: Jürgen created a new mentality here

The Klopp era came to an end at Anfield on Sunday afternoon as the Reds beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 in his final game.

Alisson has been a key figure in Klopp’s success – seven major trophies, including Premier League and Champions League glory – since joining the club in 2018.

And after the game, the goalkeeper spoke to Sky Sports about his appreciation for Klopp and the boss’ influence on him personally and the club in general.

Read a summary of the interview below…

On how Klopp will remember his time as Liverpool manager…

Well, Jürgen is a special one. He said when he came here that he was ‘The Normal One’, but he’s definitely a special one for us, for the players who played under him. I think he is a natural leader. His passion, his desire to win things, to achieve things. But he doesn’t do things thinking about achievements, he thinks about the personal side of the players. He wants to do everything and the players feel good playing for his team. I will have so many memories, good memories. I am so thankful and grateful to have had the opportunity to work under Jürgen Klopp.

On Klopp’s influence on his joining the club in 2018…

Its importance is massive. When I came here I was 26, now I’m 32. I had two children here, so many things happened in my life, I got some trophies, I reached the highest level of football, playing in the Premier. League. And its importance is massive. Every day, everything he did for the players, for the club. He is responsible, he must get all the credit. He talks about the staff, the staff also has credit, he doesn’t talk about it all the time, but he made it possible. That’s why we’ll always give him a lot of credit for all the things we’ve accomplished and all the memories.

With the 2021 header against West Bromwich Albion being the manager’s favorite goal of his tenure…

Yes! It’s a good one, hey? We had a lot of good goals, amazing goals. I think that was a pretty good header, huh?!

On what Klopp did to inspire his players to produce so many memorable moments…

He has created a new mentality here at the club. It’s about that. The players he brought in during the process, all the players have a bit of that mentality, but when we get here at this club, everything that happens around the whole staff, all the players that work at the club, that are involved, have that kind of mentality , regardless of their role at the club. We players come here on the pitch and we have to perform, but it’s also important to come with the right mindset. He was massive in creating that mentality in every player.
