New body to handle disputes between EU users and Facebook, TikTok, YouTube By Reuters

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) – An independent body backed by the Supervisory Board of Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: European union.

Formed as a certified out-of-court dispute resolution body under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), Appeals Center Europe will initially decide cases involving Facebook, ByteDance’s TikTok and YouTube (NASDAQ: ) and will include several social networks. media platforms over time.

With a team of experts, the body will apply human review to each case within 90 days and decide whether the platforms’ decisions are consistent with their content policies, it said in a statement.

The Dublin Call Centre, which has a one-off grant from the Supervisory Board, will be funded by fees charged to social media companies on a case-by-case basis. Users who raise a dispute will pay a nominal fee, which will be refunded if the decision is in their favor.

However, under the DSA rules, online platform providers may refuse to engage with such a dispute resolution body and will not have the power to impose binding dispute resolution on the parties.

“We want users to have the choice to raise a dispute with a body that is independent of governments and companies and focused on ensuring that platforms’ content policies are applied fairly and impartially,” Hughes said.

The Call Center will have a board of seven non-executive directors and will start receiving user disputes before the end of the year.
