Pep Guardiola drops a bomb on Man City’s future with Liverpool comparison after title win

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has dropped a bombshell about his future after leading his side to a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

The 53-year-old claimed his 15th major honor with the club with a 3-1 win at home to West Ham United, enough to see off nearest opponents Arsenal on the final day of the season . In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Guardiola was asked about his future plans in light of Jurgen Klopp’s departure from Liverpool. Guardiola, whose contract runs until the end of next season, confirmed on Friday that he intends to honor that deal.

However, when asked about extending his stay beyond that, the Spaniard said: “The reality is that I’m closer to leaving than staying. It’s eight years, it will be nine. At the moment, my feeling is that I’m staying next season. We’re talking to the club, we have time to talk next season because I have to see the players too.

“If they’re following me, they’re following us…for many reasons. I’ll stay. In the season we’ll talk.”

Guardiola signed his latest contract extension in November 2022 during club football’s shutdown ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Speaking to reporters ahead of Manchester City’s title clash against West Ham, Guardiola insisted he intends to honor his contract, which expires next year. He said, “Yes, I have a contract. I want to be here next season, yes, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Since his arrival at Manchester City in July 2016, Guardiola has enjoyed great success. He led the club to victory in the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and two Community Shields.
