CFO Florida issues order allowing agency client representatives to work remotely

Florida law requires insurance agency customer service representatives to work only at the agency’s office. But with another hurricane headed for the state and much of the western part of the state under evacuation orders, Florida’s chief financial officer has determined that office work is impractical, at best.

CFO Jimmy Patronis’ office issued an emergency order Monday allowing licensed customer service representatives, also known as “4-40” employees, to work remotely for at least 60 days.

“The Department of Financial Services is aware that many insurance professionals are under mandatory evacuation orders due to the impending landfall of Hurricane Milton and that representatives of clients subject to evacuation orders will not be able to transact insurance through the application of Sections 626.7352 and 626.7354(4), Florida Statutes,” the order states, a copy of which was provided by the Florida Insurance Agents Association.

Also, the deadlines for continuing education have been suspended until December 6, the order notes.
