  • Netflix released the second batch of “Love Is Blind” season seven episodes on Wednesday.
  • Monica finds sexual text messages that Stephen exchanged with another woman during their engagement.
  • Stephen now posts about his ‘villain arc’ – but reminisces about his time with Monica.

The latest batch of episodes from the “Love Is Blind” season apparently ended another engagement.

In the first batch of episodes for season seven, which premiered on October 2, the show revealed that controversial art dealer Leo and his fiancee, Brittany, had broken up after getting engaged on the show. But in episode eight, Stephen and Monica split up after he agrees to exchange sex messages with another woman – and it seems pretty definite.

Love Is Blind’s missteps are incredibly public given the show’s scale: It regularly draws millions of eyes on Netflix and has been spun off in several international editions. Stephen posted through her, labeling him his “villain arch” in social media posts.

Still, he fondly remembers his time with Monica on the show — here’s what he’s doing today.

Stephen and Monica hit it off by opening up to each other early in their relationship. On a date in episode two, Stephen says he emphasizes communication in a relationship. He also shares some of his past: he cheated on a previous partner and was “cheated on several times.” He explains that he “emotionally cheated” by flirting with another woman over a direct message and has been in therapy to analyze those actions.

Monica responds with empathy. She says she has previously had “really terrible and really, really bad” experiences with cheating, but has been able to forgive others in the past.

At another meeting in episode two, Stephen tells Monica that he considers himself a “centrist” politically and that he voted for Donald Trump in 2016 because he didn’t like Hillary Clinton. However, he says he didn’t like Trump’s behavior in office and voted for Joe Biden in 2020.

At the same time, he also tells Monica that he has recently learned that he has West African ancestry, not Italian as he previously thought. In turn, Monica tells him that she is multiracial with Honduran, African American and Cherokee ancestry.

In episode four, Stephen proposes to Monica and she accepts. Later in that episode, they meet for the first time. I am one of six couples selected to travel to Mexico on a post-engagement trip. It’s mostly drama-free for them (compared to others), although Monica tells Stephen in a conversation in episode six that he talks too much and won’t let her “say a word”.

Monica and Stephen’s relationship takes a hit in episode seven, when the two discuss their love languages - Monica enjoys the gifts and Stephen has disappointed – and their impending marriage. Stephen hints at the possibility of having second thoughts, confusing Monica, but denies that he is hesitant to marry her.

“I’m not at all afraid to marry you,” he says. “For example, I’m really in love with you. I’m just nervous about the whole thing because it’s a huge, huge commitment. And it’s not like I’m assuming I’m with you. You know, I just don’t know. I want you to feel overwhelmed when the time comes to meet you at the altar.”

Stephen notices Monica’s expectations and takes her on a flower date in episode eight after they move in together. It’s a good step in their relationship, but things fall apart at the end of the episode.

During a conversation in her apartment, Monica tells co-star Taylor that Stephen took a sleep test the night before – or at least, he didn’t sleep in their apartment. Later, she and Stephen talk about what really happened: While he was out of the house, he sent another woman sex messages that Monica says were “full of fetishes.”

Stephen tells Monica that he didn’t “fake anything” in their relationship and that he really wanted to marry her, calling the texts a “stupid mistake” he made while drunk. When Monica tells him she saw messages from the day of their conversation, he says he doesn’t remember sending them.

After Stephen tells Monica he’s leaving, Monica asks him to send her the money he spent to cover their expenses. He does, apologizing for hurting her and saying he shouldn’t have agreed to appear on “Love Is Blind”.

“How selfish of you to say,” Monica replies. “What selfish shit. You put a ring on my finger, and now you shouldn’t be on the show?”

After the conversation, Taylor and her fiancé, Garrett, comfort Monica.
