Bristol Public Schools investigates alleged ‘irregularities’ in state tests

Bristol Public Schools was made aware of alleged state testing “irregularities” and reported it to the state Department of Education, according to an email sent to parents Sunday.

Additionally, while the investigation is ongoing, the principal at Ivy Drive School has been placed on administrative leave, according to the email sent to parents on the ParentSquare tool.

“We take these allegations very seriously,” wrote Interim Schools Superintendent Iris White and Board of Education President Shelby Pons.

The item shared on ParentSquare did not name the administrator who was suspended. The principal of Ivy Drive School is Emily Gomes.

An email seeking comment was sent to Gomes late Sunday.

The email from Pons and White said an interim principal at Ivy Drive School would be named “shortly.”

“Our administration intends to fully cooperate with any investigation by the state or other designated outside entity,” the email said. “To preserve the integrity of the investigation and preserve student confidentiality, we are unable to provide additional information at this time.”

“However, we want to assure you that the education and well-being or our students remain the primary concerns of the district and we will ensure that our students continue to thrive,” the email said.
