Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Sheffield United – The Spurs Web

Tottenham Hotspur ended the season with a 3-0 win over Sheffield United this evening, ending Ange Postecoglou’s debut season in the Premier League.

Let’s take a look at how individual players fared:

Guglielmo Vicario – 6 – A very quiet day for Vicario between the sticks apart from some pushing and shoving from net kicks. It seems to be holding up a bit more now.

Pedro Porro – 9 – Tottenham’s best player today. Solid defensively, but still did his best. He was unlucky not to find the bottom corner with a dart of a shot in the first period and put one on a plate for Romero to touch. He eventually got his goal with an absolute thunderbolt on 60 minutes. Wow!

Cristian Romero – 7 – He looked determined to score today with some of his forward runs. He narrowly missed a chance from a Porro cross. A typically no-nonsense and industrious display.

Radu Dragusin – 7 – He looked a little nervous in the opening minutes when he almost gifted Sheffield a goal with a side header. After that, he was calm and assured. The highlight of his game was a root run into the center of the field and some great give-and-gos.

Micky Van de Ven – 7.5 – Looked much more comfortable at left back today with some very nice overlapping runs. Won the ball superbly to set up Tottenham’s opener. In fact, both goals came from Van de Ven. Good to know, Spurs have covered at left back next season.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 7 – He looked much better today after his furious substitution last week. Bentancur had so much time on the ball against Sheffield that it allowed him to dictate the tempo with very little pressure. Hit the post with a delightful curling effort from the edge of the box.

Pope Matar Sarr – 7 – A typical action show from Sarr. He can really play anywhere on the field and do a job for the team. I think he has a big future as a box-to-box midfielder in the Premier League.

James Maddison – 7.5 – He seems to have that creative spark back, but his shooting boots are missing. There are a few one-on-ones he’s missed in the last month. He created Tottenham’s third goal with a superb cross to Kulusevski.

Dejan Kulusevski – 8.5 – He took his opener very well at a time when Sheffield were leading. He flicked that left-footed effort into the bottom corner and it really should have made it two ten minutes later when he went wide. He eventually made it two, tapping in Maddison’s cross in the second 45.

Heung-min Son – 8 – He set up Kulusevski’s goal and should have had another assist when he set up Maddison one-on-one. Had a few good chances himself which were well saved. It just looks a lot clearer on that left wing. What care to take Maddison away and for the third goal!

Brennan Johnson – 7.5 – More of the same today, taking on defenders and sending dangerous crosses into the box. Good dismissal to help Porro. Another player who will benefit from a summer at Postecoglou.

Substitute:

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 6 – I came to see the game.

Emerson Royal – 6 – Substituted for MOTM Pedro Porro.

Oliver Skipp – 6 – He came on for Pape Matar Sarr with 15 minutes to go.

Dane Scarlett – N/A

Mikey Moore – N/A
