UK warned to expect ‘dramatic change in weather’ after glorious mini heatwave

After a sunny weekend where Brits across the country enjoyed temperatures reaching 23C, Britain is set to return to classic ‘unsettled’ conditions tomorrow. Although temperatures will hover around 18 degrees Celsius and could feel colder as 40km/h gusts sweep the country.

A Met Office spokesman revealed: “Becoming unsettled with showers and the risk of more organized and heavy rain with strong winds in easterly areas by midweek. There are still some dry and warm interludes, sometimes sunnier”.

As for the sunny spell we are currently enjoying, it will remain for most of today. A Met Office expert said: “Sunday is a beautiful day with lots of warm sunshine. Cooler under cloudier skies in the northeast. Monday will bring plenty of warm sunshine (with) low clouds lingering in the northeast where it will be cooler.”

Although for some, this weekend was less about the beach and more about avoiding the storms. Britons in the south west, parts of Wales and the Midlands were issued with severe weather warnings on Saturday ahead of the expected storms.

Expected to last for up to seven hours, there were warnings of potential flooding and significant travel disruption. All this signaling a weekend of cloudy weather for some, the Mirror reports.

The Met Office previously said: “Although not all places will see them, heavy showers and slow-moving storms may lead to some flooding and disruption in some places.”

They have raised an alert for torrential rain and thunderstorms that could lead to flash flooding and difficult road conditions.

Locations across the UK were forecast to receive between 20-30mm of rain within a few hours. They also warned that there was a small risk that continued heavy downpours could see some areas experience 40-50mm of rainfall.
