Preston ace Alan Browne being eyed by Coventry City and Sheffield United

Preston North End midfielder Alan Browne is wanted by Coventry City and Sheffield United, according to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page.

Preston North End face a battle to keep hold of their long-time skipper this summer amid his uncertain contract situation. His contract at Deepdale expires at the end of next month and he is yet to pen an extension, meaning he is set to become available as a free agent as things stand.

Browne, 29, has been on the books of the Lancashire outfit since joining them as a youngster from Cork City in 2013. Since then, he has established himself as one of their most prized assets in the middle of the park.

In this latest update on his future from journalist Nixon on Patreon, both Coventry City and Sheffield United are keen to sign him for nothing. The Lilywhites have offered him new terms.

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Browne has a huge decision to make on what to do ahead of next season.

This could be his last chance to land a big move as he looks to get to the Premier League as soon as possible.

He has made 414 appearances for Preston so far in his career and scored 46 goals. However, they have been in the second tier for the past nine years.

Coventry City reached the play-off final 12 months ago but were denied promotion to the top flight after losing on penalties to Luton Town at Wembley.

The Sky Blues will be targeting the top six again next term and could see Browne as someone to strengthen their ranks.

As for Sheffield United, they have dropped again and will want immediate promotion under Chris Wilder.

Browne would be a good fit for the Blades and would fill the void left by Oli Norwood’s departure from Bramall Lane.

What’s next for the Preston ace?

A stay at Preston is not beyond the realms of possibility for Browne if their offer matches that of other teams’ interest in him.

Keeping him would be a huge boost for Ryan Lowe’s side as they look to make another push for the top six.

He is such an important player for the Lilywhites and losing him to a club in the same league would be a big blow if he left.
