Preview | Sheffield United U21 – Swansea City U21

Swansea City Under-21s travel to Yorkshire tonight for their Professional Development League play-off semi-final against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane (7pm).

The Swans secured a place in the play-offs on the final day of the season with a 1-0 win over Birmingham City at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Swansea finished the season with 51 points, 16 wins under their belt, scoring 72 goals.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, were crowned PDL North champions for the second consecutive year.

The teams faced off in a Premier League Cup knockout clash in February. The Blades came out on top with a 5-1 win to progress to the quarter-finals on that occasion, but the Swans will be looking to make amends and take that extra step to reach the final.

Pre-match previews

Coach Anthony Wright: “We were so close last season to achieve our goal of making the play-offs this time is brilliant.

“The knock-out stages are something we don’t get enough of in academy football and the boys stepped up when they needed to.

“We came against Sheffield United already this season at Bramall Lane too. They are one of the toughest teams in the league, winning the northern league title two years in a row.”

Previous meeting – 29 August 2023
