Peabody to host Hazardous Waste Collection Day

Residents can get rid of many household and automotive chemicals on June 1.



PEABODY, MA — Peabody residents spring cleaning their basement, garage or shed can safely dispose of hazardous waste at the Health Department’s June 1 collection day.

Items can be dropped off for a $30 fee, TVs and other electronics accepted for a $20 fee at the 50 Farm Avenue location. Proof of residency is required.

Accepted items include oil paints, stains and varnishes, lighter fluid, fuel, gasoline, kerosene, antifreeze, brake fluid, transmission fluid, car wax, driveway sealer, pool chemicals and propane cylinders.

Pesticides, fertilizers, weedkillers, mothballs, pool chemicals, cleaners, thermometers and mercury batteries.

Liquids should be left in their original containers tightly closed and transported upright.

Latex paint, household waste, radioactive waste, infectious waste, ammunition, fireworks, explosives, fire extinguishers, asbestos and prescription drugs are not accepted.
