The Leicester City exit was halted and the free forward was announced when the Foxes’ first friendly was announced

A potential exit route for an unwanted Leicester City player has been closed. Meanwhile, the East Midlands club are considering signing a striker who plays in Russia. Foxes of Leicester bring you the latest LCFC speculation, news and opinion as the first Foxes friendly is announced for July.

Even in the off-season, as we are now, there is always plenty for Leicester’s recruitment department, manager and director of football to look after. After the pending decisions, there are certain contracts to be negotiated, others to be allowed to expire, and possibly one or two to be terminated. That’s the nature of the game.

Unfortunately, at least one or more stars are expected to leave the King Power club this summer. Allowing key players to leave for huge transfer fees is a strategy LCFC has previously used in the pre-season to turn a profit. In this case, the prospective sale of their best assets will be a measure imposed due to Premier League Financial Fair Play (now called PSR) issues.

However, the Foxes will still have an eye on some established talent of good value, as well as any future gems that the renowned team polish up. According to Football Insider sources, Leicester have “joined the race” to capture Mohamed Konate from Russian Premier League side Akhmat Grozn.

Konate’s deal with the Russians is no longer valid, and he will be leaving for pastures new. The Burkina Faso international contributed to 12 goals during the 2023/24 campaign. Due to the aforementioned financial issues, a free signing – or five – would be ideal at King Power. City reportedly have Brest and Lyon as rivals for Konate’s signature.

Excitement builds every year without fail when the initial pre-season game is announced for any side. City stars and Under-21 starlets will play local side Coalville Town for a start; the friendly will take place on Tuesday, July 23. More outings will be written for Foxes and then surely announced very soon.

Mainly thanks to the skill and stability of Mads Hermansen, you’d be forgiven for not realizing that Leicester’s goalkeeping department was in shambles in the first half of last term. You see, City couldn’t land Danny Ward or Daniel Iversen in 2023, so they had five keepers on the books to begin with. Now there is an update on the latter:

“It looks like Daniel Iversen will have to find another route out of the King Power Stadium after Stoke opted to sign his old Leicester City Under-21 team-mate Viktor Johansson. Iversen was loaned out to the Potters for the second half of this game. season but a return to the bet365 Stadium looks unlikely now that they have signed a new number one.”
