Arne Slot ‘system well’ as Liverpool player confirms head coach appointment

Liverpool’s new head coach Arne Slot is set to enforce a number of player fines upon his arrival at Anfield.

The former Feyenoord boss was tonight confirmed as the new manager of the Reds. His arrival has been one of football’s worst-kept secrets since Jurgen Klopp led Liverpool fans in chants for the Dutchman on Sunday.

Slot himself had also announced earlier this month that he had taken over at Anfield during a press conference. The 45-year-old heads into a tough job with the Reds as he looks to navigate the new era at the club.

To help him do that, according to The Athletic, the 45-year-old will try to crack down on any infractions from members of his squad. It is understood the Slot will implement a fine system for players for matters including arriving late to matches and missing a team bus.

However, the Liverpool team may be pleased to know that Slot does not consider himself a ‘school teacher’ or a disciplinarian. Instead, he aims to provide information to his team so they can make the healthiest choices possible. Player fines will be nothing new for the team, given that Klopp has also implemented similar rules for his team.

In 2022, the German told BT Sport: “I’m very disciplined. I’m very relaxed, but sometimes things happen – not really bad – and I wonder: ‘Do we have a fine for this?’

“And then I’m like, ‘No, we don’t have a fine for that because it’s never happened before.’ Discipline is very important to me, but the players are used to it – they grew up in the football environment and so do you. I can’t do team sports without discipline.”
