A 26-year-old man dies after taking part in the Great Bristol Run

A participant in the Great Bristol Run has died after collapsing during the event. Great Run organizers have confirmed that a 26-year-old runner has died following his participation in the race.

The man, who was in his 20s, received immediate medical attention at the scene before being rushed to hospital, where he sadly died. The cause of his death remains unknown and will be determined by a medical investigation. The family have asked for privacy and do not wish to release any further information at this time, Bristol Live reports.




The Great Run Company’s full statement read: “It is with great sadness that The Great Run Company can confirm the death of a participant in the Great Bristol Run which took place on Sunday 19 May 2024. A 26-year-old man collapsed, was treated by to the doctors, and later died in the hospital.

“Everyone involved in the organization of the Great Bristol Run wishes to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of the participant. In accordance with the family’s wishes, no further details will be released. The cause of death will be determined later. by medical examination”.

“We take the health and safety of all attendees very seriously and work hard to ensure our events are delivered safely. All event plans are rigorously assessed and approved by the Bristol Safety Advisory Group for Events (SAGE) and are aligned with best practice. in the UK.”

Both the half marathon and 10k events started at the same point, with the half marathon runners going out and back on the A4 Portway, while the 10k runners returned to town via Cumberland Road.
