The man’s four-week killing spree ended when he entered the co-op

A serial offender’s crime spree ended when he returned to the Coop.

Barclay Redford appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today (Tuesday) for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to a number of offences, including burglary, theft, fraud and car theft. The court heard how Redford’s latest crime spree began on Sunday, February 25, when he was seen tampering with car doors in Barbauld Street, Warrington.




A few weeks later, on March 19, Redford again broke into cars in Springfield Avenue, Padgate, Warrington, before stealing a Citroen C3. He used a bank card from inside the stolen vehicle at an Esso garage on Wilderspool Causeway and later that evening crashed the Citroen into several cars parked on Gorsey Lane, Howley, before fleeing the scene.

Between March 16 and 21, stole goods to the value of £343.03 from a Co-op store in Knutsford Road, Warrington. He also broke into a property on Station Road North on March 21 and stole a purse containing £40 and bank cards. He took the money and later used the bank cards to the value of £97.

Redford was arrested after he returned to the same Co-op store on Saturday, March 23, where he stole goods worth £130.14. He was subsequently charged with tampering with a vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle, failure to stop, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, false representation, driving otherwise than permitted by law, theft, fraud, six counts of theft from -a shop.

Following the sentencing, Chief Inspector Neil Drum, from Warrington Local Policing Unit, said: “Repeated attempts have been made over recent years to engage with Redford but his crime has continued. He has been arrested and taken to court five times since February this year and has yet to show any remorse for his actions or the harm he has caused in local communities.
