Tottenham completed their 2023/24 Premier League season on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. The result means Spurs finish the campaign in fifth place and qualify for the 2024/25 Europa League.

After Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat against Man City, Ange Postecoglou made a change to the Spurs XI, with Dejan Kulusevski replacing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Swede, who started in the middle of Tottenham’s front three, would have a key say in the game in the 14th minute when he found the net with a darting drive that gave Wes Foderingham no chance.

He then went close to a second of the contest not long after, but Foderingham was on hand this time to deny him. The goalkeeper continued to frustrate Tottenham, with Son Heung-min, James Maddison and Pedro Porro all denied by Sheffield’s number 18.

The Blades had chances of their own and Tottenham needed Pape Matar Sarr to be on hand to get a crucial deflection off Cameron Archer’s low effort. Spurs then conceded a crucial second goal on the hour, Porro finding the net in style after the ball had fallen kindly on the edge of the area.

It was to get even better for Spurs moments later as Kulusevski grabbed his second of the competition from close range after Maddison’s low cross from the left. Here’s how we rated the Spurs players at Bramall Lane:

Guglielmo Vicario

We didn’t have much to do at times despite Sheffield United creating some very good openings. He went to ground following a challenge on Jayden Bogle in the second half and the home fans booed him every time he was on the ball after that. 6

Pedro Porro

He put in a wonderful cross that Cristian Romero fired wide and then went close towards the end of the first half with a raspy drive. Attacked well throughout and got a goal to his name in the 59th minute with a powerful shot that gave Foderingham no chance. 8

Christian Romero

Volleyed wide in the first half from Porro’s cross when he probably should have done better. Solid at the back for the Lilywhites after a few early scares. 6

Radu Dragusin

He kept his place in the XI after an impressive performance against Man City, but a free header gave Ben Brereton Diaz a chance inside the first two minutes. He recovered well after that and even broke into a run at one point. 6

Micky van de Ven

Named at left-back again and played a key role in Kulusevski’s opener after winning the ball from the touchline before playing it inside. He almost found himself on the scoresheet just before Porro’s strike when the ball was cleared against him and forced Foderingham to tip the ball wide. He did well at left back. 7

Rodrigo Bentancur

Incredibly unlucky not to score in the first half with an effort that hit the bar and then trickled over the goal line. At the base of Tottenham’s midfield, for starters, he put in another good performance. 6

Pope Matar Sarr

Key intervention not long before half-time after getting a vital touch on Cameron Archer’s effort after a quick attack at Sheffield United. It made way midway through the second half when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg came on. 6

James Maddison

He picked out Kulusevski with a delightful ball that culminated in Foderingham denying his team-mate and saw the keeper save one of his own efforts from close range. He picked up an assist in the second half as he set up Kulusevski for his second of the game with a low ball across the goal. 8

Brennan Johnson

A good change on the right flank from the winger. He missed a big opening late on when he hit Son’s cross from a few yards out. 6

Dejan Kulusevski

He returned to the Tottenham XI after a brilliant cameo against Man City and started centrally in Spurs’ first third. He opened the scoring with a darting effort that hit the bar and went close to a second midway through the first half, but Foderingham saved well down low. He doubled his tally in the 65th minute with a low shot from six yards. Very good performance from the Swede up front as he held the ball well throughout and caused the home side some real problems. 9

Heung-min’s son

He started on the left flank and had a pass to his name for Kulusevski’s opener and came close to a goal but Foderingham saved his powerful effort. Key role in Tottenham’s second goal as he produced a quick turn to break into the area and then played a great pass on the line for Maddison who put Kulusevski into the net. His cross for Johnson late on was excellent and he really deserved a pass for it. 8
