Leeds United’s line-up against Southampton in the Championship play-off final at Wembley has been decided

The kits have been decided for Leeds United’s Championship play-off final with Southampton at Wembley and the purists will be happy. The Whites will wear their traditional home kit for the show in London on Sunday.

The EFL bases its final play-off fixture decisions on teams’ final positions in the table. With United finishing third behind Southampton’s fourth, they are seen as the home team and will be in all white on Sunday at 3pm.

It means the Saints are likely to be in the black and gray away kit they wore at Elland Road earlier this month in their final regular game of the campaign. This was a game they admittedly won 2-1 in strange circumstances as Leeds chased down Ipswich Town.

The last time the Whites played at Wembley they were also in their home kit. Doncaster Rovers’ red and white hoops with black shorts and socks didn’t clash with United’s white as they won the 2008 League One play-off final.

Leeds were also in the home kit for the last Championship play-off final they contested. Watford wore their yellow shirts, red shorts and red socks when they beat Leeds at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff in 2006.

In 1992, United won the Charity Shield at Wembley and in their home kit. A hat-trick from Eric Cantona and a Tony Dorigo strike were enough to beat Liverpool 4-3 in the 1992/93 season.

Daniel Farke’s side have had a far superior record in the white kit this season compared to the blue and pink alternatives they have for fixtures. For more superstitious fans, this will be good news.
