Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Club ‘value’ £120m duo, United name Jadon Sancho, price EXCLUSIVE

Villa could be close to landing Utd target

Aston Villa are in advanced talks to make Ross Barkley their first summer signing.

The 30-year-old Luton Town midfielder is set for a surprise return to Villa Park four years after scoring three goals in 24 appearances for Dean Smith’s side during a loan spell at Chelsea , affected by injuries.

However, Unai Emery has been impressed by the 33-cap England international’s outstanding form this season on his return to the Premier League.

SunSport understands Villa’s president of football operations Monchi has a “strong interest” in signing Barkley, who has also interested Manchester United, for a nominal fee of around £2m.

Although Barkley could not prevent the Hatters from returning to the Championship, he has excelled since joining them on a free from Ligue 1 side Nice last summer.

The former Everton and Chelsea star has scored five goals and assisted a further four in 32 appearances for Rob Edwards’ side – sparking speculation he could be close to an England recall.

Villa must trade wisely this summer as they struggle to meet tough profit and sustainability rules.

And adding Barkley would be one of the shrewdest low-cost moves they could make as they look to bolster their squad depth for next season’s Champions League campaign.

Emery admitted the club will have to “be smart” in their transfer dealings this summer after posting a £119m loss in their latest accounts – a UEFA record for the season.

Gyokeres still on the radar of the Prem giants

Former Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres is believed to be a potential target for Manchester United and Arsenal.

Sporting Lisbon’s top scorer with 29 goals won the title and finished eight shots ahead of Sporting Braga’s Simon Banza in the race for Portugal’s Golden Boot.

Gyokeres, a 20-cap Swede, joined Sporting after two years with Coventry, failing to make the grade with Brighton.

Meanwhile, Porto’s Brazilian leader, Porto striker Evanilson, is being linked with United.

Premier League BIG SIX since Guardiola joined

The Premier League’s BIG SIX have been unveiled since Pep Guardiola took over at the Etihad in 2016.

Despite two runners-up finishes in 2016, Manchester United have the fewest points of the ‘Big Six’ clubs.

The Red Devils recorded their eighth lowest score of the season.

United also won the fewest games, with 158 wins during Guardiola’s time at City.
