A man has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for assaulting his former partner in Warminster and causing criminal damage.

Tyler Thornhill, 24, of Standfast Road in Henbury, Bristol, was sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court on Monday, April 29, after previously pleading guilty to two counts of ABH and two counts of damage criminal.

After forcing his way into his ex-partners’ home armed with a baseball bat on February 14 last year – he was jailed for 30 months and given a 10-year restraining order.

In a statement read to the court, his victim said: “I constantly check several times during the night that the doors are locked, the curtains are closed, the lights are off and I even go so far as to sell the written box for fear that my – would set fire. the house while I was sleeping.

“I never thought I would find the courage to report the abuse simply because I was too scared to find out the repercussions, he promised me there was no place I could run or hide where he couldn’t get to me . .”

Local crime detective Suzanne Stone said: “Thornhill subjected his victim to three years of abuse, including physical and mental abuse. His behavior and actions made her fear repercussions to the point where they wouldn’t sleep and even caused them to move home. The impact of all this has stripped the victim of their confidence, something that should never happen to anyone.

“I welcome the sentence that was given to the suspect, particularly the ten year restraining order that was put in place. I hope the victim can finally start feeling safe and start moving on with life.

“Thornhill’s victim showed great strength throughout the investigation. I applaud her courage for reaching out and standing up to this unacceptable behavior. I urge anyone, in any situation where they are subject to abuse, to seek help and support and to confront the perpetrators of these crimes.”
