Today could be the day to jump into a new job if you’ve always fancied yourself working in one of Cornwall’s most picturesque gardens. The National Trust, Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan currently have a number of vacancies for some exciting posts.

From helping the National Trust look after its 224 historic gardens to working as a content creator at the Lost Gardens of Heligan, there could be a role right up your street. They also offer some pretty good perks as part of the roles, including free entry to the gardens or reduced or free food.

Apprentice Horticulture – Level 2, Cothele, Lanhydrock

Location(s): Saltash, Bodmin

Description: As a Horticultural Apprentice you will be part of the National Trust’s horticultural teams, helping to look after its 224 historic gardens, playing a vital role in implementing our conservation and climate change strategies, helping with routine tasks and maintaining , conservation, and care of gardens to protect them for the future.

By working alongside your mentor on tasks specific to your apprenticeship, you will develop the skills and knowledge relevant to this apprenticeship standard. You will attend and prepare for regular review meetings with your training provider and will be responsible for your own progression and will be required to complete mandatory e-learning, courses and training provided.

Holiday Operations Assistant, North Helford

Location: Bosloe, Falmouth

Description: The National Trust are looking for a holiday cottage cleaner to prepare their stunning holiday homes in North Helford. On changeover days, you will ensure that everything is clean and ready for the arrival of guests.

This will include ensuring that the cottage is thoroughly cleaned, well presented and welcoming to guests and that compliance checks are up to date and recorded. They would also like you to be on the lookout and report any repairs or odd jobs that need to be done along with replacing any broken items from the store’s stock.

Assistant Ranger, Lizard & Penrose, Gear Farm

Location: Helston

Description: As an assistant ranger, you will perform various tasks in rural management. These will include nature conservation tasks that will make habitats better for wildlife, site inspections, routine hands-on maintenance of country furniture, wildlife habitat monitoring and volunteer support and supervision. You will also help organize activities that strengthen people’s connections with the outdoors.

Visitor Experience Officer, Lizard & Penrose, Gear Farm

Location: Helston

Description: With your team, you’ll welcome people and inspire them to really get to know Lizard and Penrose. This could include designing and running events and activities, as well as creating interpretive displays and other ways of bringing the place and its stories to life for all who visit.

You could encourage visitors to take a closer look at the nature and landscapes cared for by the Trust. You may supervise and support volunteers and organize rotations and may check presentation standards on site or help write for the Trust’s web pages.

The Eden Project

Sustainable Apprentice Chef

Description: Key responsibilities of this role include: supporting the chefs in the production of high quality products, assisting in the development of new products to be sold on site, supporting all locations on the Eden Project site, from the biome kitchens, Core, Med Terrace , working to help organize events and working on the famous Eden Sessions and working with Eden Apprentices to deliver sustainable group projects.

Pay: £7.50 per hour in the first year (£8.60 for 18-20s, £11.44 for over 21s)

Description: Key responsibilities of this role include: supporting the horticulture team in pruning, planting, seeding, watering, weeding and caring for all plants. together with habitat management, assisting in the creation and maintenance of hard and soft landscaping – such as hedges, walls, fences, paths and bridleways and having shared responsibility for their use, care and maintenance tools and machinery used in horticultural activities, including equipment for cutting grass and hedges, mowing, planting, pruning and the use of golf carts.

Description: Key responsibilities of this role include: ensuring excellent donor stewardship by phone, email, post and in person for existing and potential supporters, processing financial transactions correctly and sending thank yous within agreed time frames, maintaining records, recruiting donors , helping to identify ways to grow. profitability and profile of existing revenue streams and leadership, under the supervision of the individual donor officer, in the creation and delivery of new and expanded fundraising products.

Description: Key aims of the role include: responsibility for all areas of content creation from concept to delivery, supporting the marketing team in developing a social media content strategy that aligns with the marketing strategy and working with Heligan team members on the front place in interpretation; horticulture and estate to share the stories of the gardens.
