Wayne Rooney set for new job as Manchester United ‘shootout’ legend

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is facing a decision about his career direction, with both Sky Sports and TNT Sports keen to sign him as a pundit next season.

The 38-year-old has been out of a job as a manager since an ill-fated spell in charge of Birmingham City ended in January. Since then, the club has been relegated to League 1 on the last day of the championship season.

Rooney also took charge of Derby County and Major League Soccer (MLS) team DC United. He is said to be keen to return to management, believing he still has a lot to offer in the dugout.

Since losing his job, Rooney has been a guest pundit on various channels. Sun. Now report that both Sky Sports and TNT Sports are looking to sign Rooney as one of their main pundits for the new Premier League season and are in a ‘jump’ for the England hero.

It adds that the striker is also being eyed for a pundit job for the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament. Both the BBC and ITV are said to be interested in using the former England captain as a pundit for the games.

The report comes after it was announced that Rooney has been signed up as a new host for the Overlap YouTube channelwhich will see him work alongside former United team-mate Gary Neville.

Roy Keane, Jill Scott, Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright are the other pundits who regularly appear on the weekly show. Rooney will now join them, with the possibility of him being seen more regularly as a pundit in the 2024/25 campaign.
