Never Have I Ever Star Darren Barnet On Whether Devi Should Choose Paxton Or Ben (Video)

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the finale of “Never Have I Ever” Season 1.

The first season of Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher’s latest coming-of-age Netflix series Never Have I Ever centers on the fate of the love triangle between protagonist Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), her. handsome and popular friend Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet) and the boy who was once her academic nemesis, Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison).

In the final scene, Devi kisses Ben after he hijacks his father’s Porsche to take her to the beach in time to scatter her father’s ashes. But just then, her longtime boyfriend, Paxton, finally realizes that he was an idiot for blowing her off and decides to finally ask her to be his girlfriend.

We asked Barnet to weigh in on who Devi should choose: Paxton or Ben.

“Oh man, there are so many great arguments for both,” he said. “Paxton, I think, really shows his true colors in how he cares for Devi and saves her from parties twice and rushes her to the hospital.”

But the actor was a bit tougher on his on-screen competition.

“Ben is never in a hurry to act. And, for one, Ben is in a relationship,” he added.

But, this interviewer had to ask: What about that popular girl Paxton is always flirting with at school?

“It’s just an adventure,” he said. “Obviously, they’re the two hottest people in school and everyone thinks they should be together, so they flirt, but he’s not in a relationship like Ben is.”

Fair enough.

“Again, I think Ben and her are more compatible in a lot of ways,” he admitted. “But sometimes you meet someone so similar to you that it can be a bad thing. Opposites attract sometimes, and Paxton and Devi are enough opposites. But also, the more you get to know them together, the more you realize how similar they are, in a way.”

If it wasn’t clear where Barnet was – “They’re Team Paxton,” he said.
