Liquid rules for hand luggage at Manchester Airport before May half term

Tourists must continue to adhere to 100ml limits for liquids in hand luggage when flying this summer. Manchester Airport and major airlines have urged passengers to follow current guidance.

It comes as some UK airports have rolled out new security scanners which remove the need to comply with the 100ml limit. Thanks to 3D scanning technology, passengers would no longer have to put liquids into plastic bags or take out laptops and electronic devices.

The government set a nominal deadline of June 1 this year for major airports to install Next Generation Security Checkpoint (NGSC) scanners, but extensions were granted to several airports when it became clear they would miss the June 1, 2024 deadline. Deadline. Although they have now been successfully installed at Aberdeen, Teeside and London City International Airports.

Manchester Airport has previously said it continues to make “good progress” with the installation of the scanners, but that they will not be fully implemented until next year. Scanners are installed in some airport lanes, but to avoid any security delays, all passengers are urged to follow the current restrictions.

Major airlines have also urged passengers to stick to 100ml restrictions. A Tui spokesman said: “While UK airports are installing new scanners to prepare for changes to security restrictions, at this time you should still follow current guidelines as not all airports have changed and destination airports still have these restrictions in place for the flight home. . All liquids – including water and any creams, lotions, perfumes, hand sanitizer, food, lighters – must be in containers no larger than 100ml.”

EasyJet has confirmed that their guidance has not changed and that liquids, aerosols and gels should be in containers of 100ml or less to pass through security and all should fit in a clear, resealable bag of 20 cm x 20 cm. Ryanair is advising passengers to follow the same guidance.

On its website, Jet2 says: “Please continue to travel as normal and assume that going through security will be the same as you are currently used to, unless we tell you otherwise on the day. This means only taking liquids in containers of 100ml or less that fit in a clear, resealable plastic bag (no larger than 20cm x 20cm) for security. The changes will come into effect in a phased approach at UK airports, so please do not assume that the new security systems are still in place at your departure airport.”
