Harvey Elliott: Jürgen leaves Liverpool in the best place possible

Klopp bid farewell to the Reds fans after Sunday’s 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, the 491st and final game of his glorious eight-and-a-half-year spell on Merseyside.

His time at the club saw Liverpool scale remarkable heights both domestically and abroad, with the club winning their sixth European Cup in 2019 and following up with their 19th league championship, and their first in 1990, a year later.

There have also been successes in the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Carabao Cup (twice) and Emirates FA Cup, with Klopp presiding over countless memorable days and nights as manager.

And as both he and the club prepare for the next chapter, Elliott paid his own heartfelt tribute to the boss.

“We are in the best possible position because of him and his coaching staff,” he told Liverpoolfc.com. “What he taught us, how to become real players and real men. I think his style of play is iconic and I think we’ll take a lot of things we’ve learned from the boss and take them into consideration. the next chapter.

“We’re all very excited for it. It’s a new chapter, it’s a new challenge for everyone and it’s a new beginning. We as players have to be happy, they have to be excited about it.

“We have to show the new gaffer the Liverpool ways, but Jürgen and his manager have certainly left something here. All credit to him and the coaching staff.

“We just have to enjoy ourselves and in the summer we can think and prepare for the next season.”

Elliott joined Liverpool from Fulham as a 16-year-old in August 2019 and, after making his debut in a Carabao Cup tie at MK Dons a month later, went on to make 119 senior appearances for the club.

Reflecting on his journey under Klopp, the 21-year-old said: “He taught me things I never thought he would learn. I’ve turned into a man, that’s right.

“I think when I joined I quickly realized what it takes and how to represent the club, know the way the club is and how to handle situations. I think the boss was part of that journey throughout the matter.

“Who I am today is because of him. He gave me the platform, he gave me courage, he taught me so many things to go out there and play football. I am who I am today because of him. For that, I will never thanks enough.

“The experiences I’ve gained, especially being a Liverpool fan, is a dream come true for me and my family.

“It’s really hard to put into words what he did. If I tried to explain it, I’d be here all day. The things I learned from him I’ll be forever grateful for and keep with me forever. “

He continued: “It doesn’t feel real, to be honest. As players, I don’t think we’ve processed how it happened or what’s happening. I think we thought about it more over the summer.

“But I think (Sunday) it was hard to think about things like that, we just wanted to enjoy the day, enjoy it with him and the staff. The guys who are leaving us, Thiago (Alcantara), Joel (Matip), we all wanted to make sure they had the best day and the best send-off possible.

“It’s emotional and upsetting. We formed such a great bond together and created so many memories. We made history.”
