Court update after man charged following ‘chemical incident’ in Nuneaton

A man charged following a ‘chemical incident’ in Nuneaton has been remanded in custody. Jonah Smith, 27, of Shakespeare Drive appeared at Coventry Magistrates Court yesterday (May 20).

He was charged with arson, burglary and criminal damage under £5,000. This came after police spent most of the weekend at a property in Shakespeare Drive.



Warwickshire Police said it was responding to concerns that a man had access to dangerous chemicals. It followed a report of a man allegedly mixing chemicals on the tarmac at an industrial site in Attleborough Fields, Warwickshire Police said.

The chemicals were traced to an alleged burglary in Worcestershire on May 16, police said. A judge remanded Smith in custody before appearing at Warwick Crown Court on Monday, June 17.
