The shortlist has been announced for the fifth Greater Manchester Health and Care Champion Awards – Quest Media Network

Greater Manchester’s only awards that recognize the exemplary contributions of our entire health and care workforce have announced their shortlist for 2024 and the stories are as inspiring as ever.

Three workers from Tameside and Glossop were shortlisted; with Dr Vikas Gupta, Clinical Director at Denton Primary Care Network, named among the nominees for ‘Leadership Champion’, while Patricia Bromley (Head Nurse) and Kristopher Randles (Occupational Therapist Apprentice) from Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust are shortlisted for ‘Teacher’. of the year’.

The Greater Manchester Health and Care Champion Awards are run by NHS Greater Manchester and were held for the first time in 2018. They are an opportunity to show recognition and gratitude to those who work hard to improve the health and wellbeing of people in our communities.

Over 500 nominations were received this year, each sharing the extraordinary stories from across our employed and unpaid workforce. Nominations were submitted for 13 different categories, including Leadership, Innovation and Community Champion.

Nominations came from the health and care sector across all ten Greater Manchester boroughs. Many include input from staff who have dedicated years of work in the sector, while others are taking big leaps at the start of their health and care journey. Some of the nominations detail those working to address health inequities within communities, while others have given their own time to help improve the lives of others. One thing is for sure – all the nominees deserve awards and recognition.

The 2024 shortlist includes a chef, a football club secretary, a team of midwives and a MacMillan dementia nurse! All shortlisted nominations will be considered by a panel of judges and the winners will be announced at a sponsored event on 11 July 2024.

Mark Fisher, Chief Executive of NHS Greater Manchester, said: “Congratulations to the shortlisted nominees for this year’s Champions Awards. It is inspiring to hear about their outstanding contributions and their work to improve the lives of people in Greater Manchester.

“These awards really highlight the important role of staff and volunteers from a range of backgrounds and disciplines who support our services.

“I’m so glad we can honor those who work so hard every day – good luck to everyone shortlisted.”

The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said: “It’s fantastic to see the Greater Manchester Health and Care Champions Awards returning for a fifth year. The variety of shortlisted individuals and teams across Greater Manchester is remarkable – from midwives, to homelessness support workers and charities and mental health services.

“I am very pleased to receive the recognition they deserve and look forward to learning more about their hard work and innovation at the awards ceremony in July.”
