Carers across Coventry and Warwickshire will be celebrated at an upcoming awards ceremony as a local charity highlights the life-changing work of unpaid carers and the stress many find themselves under.

Nominations for the Career Awards are open until 23 May, with a ceremony planned for 13 June at Warwick School, where winners in seven different categories will be announced.

Organizers said the ceremony would highlight the challenges faced by the 16,000 unpaid carers working in the region.

Lisa Sergiew from Carers Trust in Coventry said: “We see carers who are really stressed and don’t know where to turn for help. They are exhausted, with no support services, but we aim to stop them. reaching the point of caretaker failure”.

The awards are part of Carers Week (June 10-16), with this year’s theme “Putting Carers on the Map.” Carers Trust Heart of England will mark the occasion by hosting group activities including a carers’ walk and an information day.

Lisa said: “All services are under strain at the moment, whether it’s charities or social care. Carers provide all this care and save money in the welfare system.

“Taking a neighbor shopping once a week or caring for a loved one 24 hours a day, being able to provide that care is priceless.”

The seven categories in this year’s awards include Young Adult Care Award, Care Award of the Year, Friendly School or College of the Year and Fundraiser of the Year.

Lisa said: “All the carers we meet tend to be really selfless people and I know there were a few tears at last year’s awards because the awards say they remind people that the important work they do is recognised.”
