Aylestone: Police called to school about 11-year-old boy with knife

Police were called to reports of an 11-year-old boy in possession of a knife at a primary school in Leicester.

Leicestershire Police said officers went to Montrose Primary School in Wigston Lane, Aylestone, on Friday after receiving a call shortly before 2pm BST.

The boy allegedly took a vegetable knife from the school kitchen before staff took it from him, the force said.

A statement from the school said that “at no time were there any children in danger” and that “the adults quickly resolved the situation.”

The school said: “We understand the concern and strong feelings surrounding today’s incident and would like to clarify a few things.

“We would like to make it clear that at no time were any children at risk of harm or stalked.

“There was a very quick response and the adults quickly resolved the situation with all the children being immediately moved away from the area.”

The statement said “most of the children did not know what was happening”, but the pupils were told in the assembly the situation and how they were kept safe.

He added: “Teachers and support staff were all present and as always support was given to any children who were upset.

“As this is now a police matter, we are unable to share any further details at this time.

“But please be assured that the child involved will definitely not be at school next week and any further action will follow the investigation.”

A police spokesman confirmed officers were in contact with the school as inquiries into the incident continued.
