Connor Roberts may have suffered a blow in his bid to win a permanent move to Leeds United

Leeds United are being linked with a player who could be on course to play in the Champions League final on June 1 and it comes as a blow to Connor Roberts this summer.

The result on Sunday afternoon will determine what kind of summer Leeds will have over the next few months. A win over Southampton at Wembley immediately improves the target player’s caliber.

Already, Leeds are being linked with a number of players they could sign if promotion back to the Premier League is secured at Wembley. Bayer Leverkusen striker Adam Hlozek is one Leeds could decide to sign.

Another is Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff, who has a year left on his contract. Now Leeds are being touted with a move to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Marius Wolf on a free transfer this summer.

Reports claim that Leeds have already opened talks to sign the five-time Germany defender, who has played 31 times for Dortmund this season. Dortmund face Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

A flying right-back with plenty of height and experience at the highest level, Wolf is about to see his contract at Dortmund expire and if he is promoted Leeds will be keen, but it comes as bad news for the Country star Welsh Roberts.

Bad news for Roberts as Leeds pursue a deal for Wolf on a free transfer

Roberts joined on loan from Burnley in January, since making just three starts and 14 appearances for the Whites. Upon his arrival, Roberts immediately said he was open to a permanent move to Elland Road.

Daniel Farke has hinted at a permanent move himself, while reports claim Leeds are keen to do a deal. But, promotion could see Leeds decide to move on from Roberts and bring in someone else.

Now interest in Wolf suggests Leeds are looking at other right-back options ahead of the summer. It also suggests Leeds want to push Archie Gray into midfield instead of right-back.

There will be a few players in that position at Leeds. Liam Cooper could be one, who is about to see his Leeds contract expire after 10 years. Promotion certainly ends any chance of a new contract with Leeds.

But another season in the Championship could see Cooper sign a new deal, and the same could be said of Sam Byram and Jamie Shackleton, who are in the same position as Leeds captain Cooper.

Roberts could fit into that category and although he has more Premier League experience than Byram and Shackleton and even Cooper, Leeds could look at Roberts as a Championship signing.
