Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is ‘close’ to securing a new job

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is closing in on a return to professional football.

Mourinho spent two-and-a-half years as United manager from 2016-2018, winning the Europa League and Carabao Cup. Now 61, he left Old Trafford in December 2018 and was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The former United boss has been unemployed since leaving Roma in January; however, there are now reports that Mourinho could be on the verge of returning to professional football, but not as a manager.

According to Sportitalia, Mourinho is being lined up by Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadisiyah to be their new technical director. The report states that the former Chelsea boss is “close” to being appointed to the role, in what would be his first job in football and not as a manager.

Al-Qadisiyah is in the second tier of the Saudi Arabian football system. The club recently won the Division 1 title to confirm their promotion to the Saudi Pro League for next season.

Mourinho’s last major trophy was winning the Europa Conference League with Roma in 2022 in the first season of the competition. He spent two-and-a-half years in charge of the Serie A club in what was his first job outside England in more than a decade.
