Croydon Harriers mixed experience week after county championship success – South London News

BY MIKE FLEET

After winning 18 gold medals in the county championships last weekend, Croydon Harriers experienced a week of mixed success across the board.

The club champions finished a good third in their six-club fixture on Monday, where top-class event coverage made up for the lack of winners.

Ian Stater was runner-up in both the long jump and discus. Other valuable seconds were for Scott Miller, 1500m, and Mike Smalley – high jump.

While at the Southern Mens and Women’s League meeting at Walton, the club side had their work cut out for them, avoiding last place.

Fortunately, the club’s U15 and U17 boys and girls excelled as runners-up in their demanding National Development League match at Mile End, where Trey Lindsay’s Great Britain number one 150m runner reduced his best to 17.52 seconds and backed that up with another top 9.20 second improvement. in the 75m.

Other national standards were set by U15 A winners Gabby Reid with 11.5 seconds in the 75m hurdles and Shivelle Marshall in the 100m.

U15 high jump runner-up Millie Sims, a Surrey bronze medallist, recorded a dramatic personal best of 1.56m, which puts her in the top 20 nationally.

Croydon swept the board in the relays, with the girls’ 4x300m quartet finishing fractionally outside the three minute mark.
