Sheffield United and Burnley will join Sunderland and Preston North End in the Championship next season.

The Blades and Clarets return to the second tier at the first question after earning automatic promotion in the 2022/23 campaign.

New recruits will already be on the radar, with all four sides now claimed to have a star on their shopping lists.

According to a report from The Sun, Sheffield United, Sunderland, Burnley and Preston North End are all interested in Canadian international winemaker Millar ahead of the summer transfer window.

The FC Basel man has spent this season with Preston, managing five goals and five assists in 36 games. His impressive displays have seen him attract admiring glances from several clubs, both in the Championship and on the continent.

Millar, with a year left on his contract with Basel, when Deepdale’s loan ends.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Do you stay in the championship?

Former Liverpool youngster Millar spent loan spells at Kilmarnock and Charlton Athletic before moving to Switzerland with Basel in the summer of 2021.

Since then, he has managed 13 goals and 10 assists in 91 games for the club, while making 24 appearances for Canada.

However, he has found another level of productivity in the Championship this season. His impressive performances both as a full-back and as a full-back have shown he could be a real star at this level and Sheffield United, Sunderland and Burnley are seemingly aware of this.

Interest from all three parties could make it difficult for Preston to keep Millar permanently, although the winger could favor a stay at Deepdale given he has already established himself there and knows the system of Ryan Lowe’s side.

How likely is a move?

Millar’s immediate future is in the hands of parent club FC Basel.

He still has a year left on his contract and after his impressive loan spell, they may look to tie him down to a new deal and give him more game time to try and convince him to stay.

That said, if Millar is setting his sights on a permanent exit, the club may not stand in his way. With a year left on their contract, this summer could be their last chance to cash in.

And with Sheffield United, Sunderland, Burnley and Preston among those keen, they are looking to have a handful of clubs who could offer to buy him before they lose him for nothing next summer.

Time will tell how that plays out, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Millar back in the Championship at the start of next season.
