Coronation Street fans say they ‘still can’t believe’ character ‘back’ amid villain’s ‘return’

Coronation Street fans said they “still can’t believe” Seb Franklin’s death as the loss hit Abi Webster following the news of his killer Corey Brent.

It’s been three years since Corey was last seen in the ITV soap and following his arrival in 2019, played by Maximus Evans, he was quickly involved in a shocking hate crime attack on Nina Lucas and her boyfriend Seb, which took the life of the latter.

It was then revealed in flashback scenes last month that the young footballer was responsible for kicking the builder until he lay motionless on the floor, later dying of his injuries. But it took time for the truth to prevail, as Nina suffered memory loss as a result of the trauma and Corey managed to avoid any responsibility in the first trial, with Kelly Neelan accused of Seb’s death.

While Corey was finally locked up in 2021, Abi was left shocked during scenes aired on Monday night (May 20) when she turned on the radio to hear the presenter sing the praises of Corey and his football prowess. Abi is horrified when her husband Kevin is forced to reveal that Corey plays for a prison team and is part of a new documentary.

Angry at Kevin for keeping the news from her, she later watched the documentary, and while it painted Corey as a hero, Abi was left glowing. She later informed Nina and the two headed to the offices of the television company responsible for the documentary and entered the producer’s office demanding answers.

Abi and Nina returned to the pavement and Police Officer Craig Tinker appeared in the garage to speak to Abi as a complaint had been made about her. While he threatened to take her to the ward if she continued to get angry. But she was later encouraged when Gazette writer Suki Waters stepped in with the offer of an interview.

Abi asked if he could film it instead and post an unedited version online, hoping to discourage people from watching the documentary. In the emotional scenes, Abi spoke of the amazing young man Seb was before his life was cut short, describing how he was kicked to death by the vaunted man while in prison.

Following the scenes, Corrie fans were moved by the memory of Seb’s death and also claimed that Abi had ‘turned around’ as she took matters into her own hands after a peaceful period without any drama.

@nixybobs said: “Still can’t believe Seb died in this. Like I didn’t see it coming at all. The story is still close, anyone who resembles Nina in any way, hit. Brilliant story. Fiction, I know, but Corey deserves no airtime anywhere.” @tracyd1805 wrote: “Such a touching scene. Obviously fantastic acting once again.”

@timrichardjones commented: “Wow loved it and so true and I really feel sorry for Abi and glad she didn’t want to edit it so she could change it.” @RyanTheSoapking added: “Well done Abi! Some powerful scenes from Sally Carman tonight. Glad Abi is back getting the content she deserves. One of #Corrie’s best characters in my opinion.”
