First photo of Bristol man who died after severe turbulence on Singapore Airlines flight

The first photo of a British tourist who tragically died of a heart attack after severe turbulence on a Boeing 777 he was on has been released. Geoffrey Ralph Kitchen, 73, believed to be a resident of Thornbury, Gloucestershire, near Bristol, died on board when the Singapore Airlines flight from Heathrow Airport hit severe turbulence.

An official at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, where the plane was forced to land, said the Briton died of suspected cardiac arrest. He added that seven other passengers were seriously injured, along with dozens of other minor injuries.




Geoffrey, 73, is believed to have experienced violent blackouts when the aircraft went down in dangerous conditions at an altitude of 37,000 meters above the Indian Ocean. the Singapore-bound flight then made an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, Gloucestershire Live reports.

Singapore Airlines said the flight encountered “sudden extreme turbulence” over Myanmar’s Irrawaddy Basin at 37,000 feet about 10 hours after takeoff, with the pilot declaring a medical emergency and diverting the plane to Bangkok.

There were 211 passengers and 18 crew on board, including 47 passengers from the UK. Singapore Airlines said: “Singapore Airlines flight SQ321, operating from London Heathrow to Singapore on May 20, encountered severe turbulence en route.”

“We can confirm that there are injuries and one death on board. Singapore Airlines offers its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.”
