England snoop Marcus Rashford could hint at a worrying future for Manchester United

Marcus Rashford could be in for a bleak future at Manchester United after being left out of England’s squad for this summer’s European Championships.

Gareth Southgate’s decision to overlook the 26-year-old is, to be honest, unsurprising after a torrid season at Old Trafford in which he managed just eight goals and five assists in 42 games, despite was a regular fixture in Erik ten Hag’s team.

But it is quite a contrast to this time last year, when Rashford, fresh from the most prolific season of his United career, was handed a new five-year contract at Old Trafford worth more than £300,000-a-week.

However, he now faces the possibility of a bleak future for both club and country as he joins former Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson as one of the most experienced players of Southgate’s tenure in England who will be without seat on next month’s flight to Germany.

Worryingly for Rashford, however, this public abandonment of Southgate could become a familiar story at Old Trafford next season if the 53-year-old is named United’s new manager.

The ten hag faces an uncertain future at the club after United limped to eighth in the Premier League and suffered an embarrassing Champions League group stage exit at the hands of Copenhagen and Bayern Munich. The Manchester Evening News understands INEOS boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe is not entirely sold on Ten Hag, although the club are working under the assumption that the Dutchman will be in charge next season.
