‘Horrible’ Huddersfield man jailed as brave young sex abuse victim praised

A man has been sentenced to ten years in prison for sexually abusing a young child.

Kieron Day, 37, from Huddersfield, was jailed at Leeds Crown Court on Friday after being convicted of sex offenses at a hearing earlier that day.

Day was convicted of felony counts of sexual assault on a girl and causing/inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He will also have to register for life on the sex offenders’ register.

Police began investigating the matter in December 2020 after Day’s offending was first reported by the victim.

West Yorkshire Police said a “very complex” investigation followed, leading to Day appearing in court in February 2023 charged with sex offences.

Detective Sergeant Olivia Connor from Kirklees District Child Protection Unit said: “Keiron Day committed a series of horrific offenses against a young and vulnerable child and we are delighted that he is now behind bars.

“I want to commend the courage of the young victim and her family in reporting his appalling facts and then supporting what turned out to be a complex and thorough police investigation.

“All reports of such crimes are taken with the utmost seriousness by the police and we can promise that victims are always treated sympathetically with all the support they need.”
