Manchester Airport, Jet2, Tui, Easyjet and Ryanair on latest hand luggage liquids guidance

Tourists are told to continue to respect the 100ml limits for liquids in hand luggage. Passengers have been urged to follow current guidance from Manchester Airport and major airlines.

It comes as some UK airports have rolled out new security scanners which remove the need for people to comply with the 100ml limit. Thanks to 3D scanning technology, passengers would no longer have to put liquids into plastic bags or take out laptops and electronic devices.

A nominal deadline of June 1 this year has been set by the Government for major airports to install Next Generation Security Checkpoint (NGSC) scanners. However, extensions were granted when it became clear that several airports would not meet the deadline, the Manchester Evening News reports.

So far they have been successfully installed at Aberdeen International Airport, Teeside and London City Airports. Manchester Airport has previously said it continues to make “good progress” with the installation of the scanners, but that they will not be fully implemented until next year.

Scanners are installed in some airport lanes, but to avoid any security delays, all passengers are urged to follow the current restrictions. Major airlines have also urged passengers to stick to 100ml restrictions.

A Tui spokesman said: “While UK airports are installing new scanners to prepare for changes to security restrictions, at this time you should still follow current guidelines as not all airports have changed and destination airports still have these restrictions in place for the flight home. All liquids, including water and any creams, lotions, perfumes, hand sanitizer, food, lighters must be in containers of no more than 100ml.”
