Green light to turn shuttered Leicester pub into flats

A former pub in Leicester, which called for last orders more than a decade ago, is to be converted into housing.

Permission has been granted for the Tudor Hotel, on the corner of Tudor Road and Tewkesbury Street in Newfoundpool, to become 10 flats.

The Pig closed in 2013, according to planning documents.

Now the building, whose ornate red brick dates back to 1900, will become a mix of studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments.

An outbuilding previously used for storage will also be converted into a self-contained one-bed flat.

In its application, agent Design Studio Architects wrote: “A mixture of studios as well as one and two bedroom apartments has been designed, alongside associated landscaping.

“Given the demand for small family and single-person homes in Leicester, it was considered appropriate for the site to be developed into housing.”
