Stoke City are working on a loan deal for Conor Coady from Leicester City

Stoke City are working on a loan deal to sign Leicester City defender Conor Coady this summer, according to a report from TEAMtalk.

Stoke City are interested in landing the centre-back in the next transfer window as they prepare for their first full season under former Plymouth Argyle boss Steven Schumacher. They finished 17th in the table last season, six points above the bottom three.

Coady, 31, won the Championship title with Leicester City and helped them to an immediate return to the Premier League. However, he was not a regular starter for Enzo Maresca’s side and was mainly used as back-up and cover.

In this latest update on his situation at the King Power Stadium, TEAMtalk claims that the Potters are believed to be leading the race in this particular pursuit at the moment. However, they face competition from “several” other teams in the second tier.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Stoke City could see Coady as someone who adds more competition and depth to their defensive department.

He is a player with a lot of experience in the Football League and knows what it takes to get promoted to the top flight.

Leicester City snapped him up last summer after relegation and since then he has made 17 competitive appearances for them, 12 of which have come in the league.

His contract with the Foxes runs until June 2026, but his playing time could dry up further next campaign.

Coady started out at Liverpool and rose through the academy ranks at Anfield before making two appearances for their first team as a youngster.

He had a loan spell at Sheffield United before Huddersfield Town signed him permanently in 2014.

The Liverpudlian then spent a year with the Terriers before Wolves lured him to Molineux.

Coady was a great servant to the Midlands outfit and played 317 games for them, helping them to promotion to the Premier League.

He then had a temporary spell at Everton before Leicester City came calling.

Stoke City will be aiming to compete at the top end of the table next term and Coady would be a smart addition.

It’s a safe pair of hands and would bolster Schumacher’s defensive department. However, other clubs are said to be in the frame, so the Potters may need to act quickly here.
