Police appeal for witnesses after 18-year-old stabbed in playground – South London News

Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was stabbed in a playground on Saturday night.

Officers were called by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) shortly after 8pm to reports that a man had been stabbed and seriously injured at Streatham Common Playground.

The 18-year-old was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition but is now stable and recovering, the Met said.

A 19-year-old man was detained at the scene and arrested. He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Detective Sergeant Matt Summerfield, who is leading the investigation, said: “We know this incident has caused significant concern in the community and we are working to identify anyone who may have been involved.

“This attack took place on a summer evening and we know there were other people in the area or nearby. We have spoken with a number of these individuals, but we believe there are others who have information that could assist our investigation.

“If you think you have seen something or noticed someone acting suspiciously, please contact us immediately.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days and officers will be happy to speak to anyone with questions.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting reference 6961/18 May.
