Brixton Water Lane was closed as shots were fired at the Sainsbury’s store

At around 10pm last night we heard reports of gunshots being heard by the Sainsbury’s department store in Brixton, opposite the Hootananny location on Brixton Water Lane.

Brixton Water Lane has now been closed in both directions between the A23 Brixton Hill and the A204 Tulse Hill while forensic officers investigate the scene.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said:

Police were called to Tulse Hill, SW2, shortly before 10pm on Monday 20 May to reports of shots being fired.

“Officers attended. Evidence of a firearm was discovered at the scene near a supermarket where a window had been smashed.

“There are no gunshot injuries, a member of the public shopping in the store crushed his knee after falling to the floor.

“There were no arrests. Research is ongoing.

“Any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 101, quoting CAD 8518/20 May.”
