How much is the Championship play-off final worth as Leeds United and Southampton chase the Premier League

Leeds United face Southampton at Wembley this weekend for a place in the Premier League next season.

The battle between two of the relegated teams from the previous ranking takes place on Sunday in the Capital, from 15.00. The match marks the Whites’ first trip to football since their League One play-off final defeat by Doncaster Rovers in 2008.

Daniel Farke’s side booked their place under the Wembley arch with a devastating second leg performance against Norwich City last Thursday. For Saints, a 3-1 aggregate triumph over West Bromwich Albion was enough to set up a 101st meeting between the two sides on the biggest stage of all.

But the implications for both sides are huge, not only in terms of the game, but also financially. The Championship play-off final is the most profitable match in world football, with the benefits of promotion being seen for years to come.

When looking at last year’s winners, Luton Town, their victory over Coventry was estimated to have netted the Hatters around £170m, according to Deloitte estimates. However, Leeds and Southampton look set to eclipse that total if they emerge victorious.

It has been reported that the winner of Sunday’s clash could earn up to £265m in extra income. This financial income is the result of TV deals provided by the Premier League and sponsorship allocations.
