Sheffield Wednesday now face an anxious wait for Duncan McGuire after the latest blow

Sheffield Wednesday now face an anxious wait for Duncan McGuire following this latest blow from Orlando City.

Sheffield Wednesday have been tracking Orlando City striker McGuire, 23, following their failed pursuit in January.

The Owls were locked in a battle with Blackburn Rovers to sign USMNT striker McGuire, although it was the latter who won the race.

Shortly after, McGuire would return to the States after a paperwork error at Blackburn meant the deal was not technically done.

McGuire recently spoke about the comical blunder at Rovers, insisting “it would take a lot” for him to reconsider a move to Ewood Park.

McGuire, however, said he would be open to having a conversation with the club, suggesting he is open to leaving Orlando this summer, with his current contract set to expire at the end of this year.

Duncan McGuire is injured with Orlando City

McGuire has started the 2024 MLS season in fine form, with five goals in 12 games so far this season.

But in Orlando’s last outing against the San Jose Earthquakes, McGuire was forced off after just 16 minutes with a shoulder injury.

After Sunday morning’s game, journalist Mike Gramajo posted on X: “McGuire wore a shoulder strap the entire game after exiting, but looked in good spirits.

“No real updates. I’ll have to come back later in the week.”

Since then, we have had no update on McGuire, which could suggest a potentially serious injury to the striker, which could in turn affect his chances of a summer move to England.

Sheffield Wednesday are not alone in their interest in McGuire, who also has interest from elsewhere in Europe.

Sheffield Wednesday are expected due to Duncan McGuire’s injury

Expect Sheffield Wednesday officials to be aware of McGuire’s injury and anxiously await the severity of it.

If it’s a serious one, then it could prompt the Owls to cool their interest in McGuire and pursue a move for the likes of Ike Ugbo.

Danny Rohl will want someone to come in and hit the ground running; if McGuire’s injury is serious, then he’ll probably end up in S6 injured, then need more time to build up to fitness, let alone get to grips with his style of play.

And the same could be applied to any team looking to sign McGuire this summer, so the timing of his injury certainly isn’t ideal.

We should get an update on McGuire soon, with his Orlando City side back in action against the Columbus Crew in MLS this Sunday.
