Family speak of ‘shocking’ moment car crashed into their Bradford home

A FAMILY has spoken of the shocking moment a car crashed into their home on a Bradford street.

Emergency services were called to Park Lane in Little Horton just after 6pm last night (Monday) after a car crashed into three houses, damaging their gardens and leaving debris in its wake.

Video footage, from one of the families whose home was hit, showed a black BMW 320 skid the road, go over the curb, crash into a house, overturn smashing through a garden fence and a canopy, before to rest on it. side in front of one of the houses. As police launched an investigation into the crash, one of the families spoke to the T&A about the “shocking” incident.

One man, who was one of the Park Lane homeowners affected by the crash, said: “You could hear the engine revving from up the road.

“Our family was upstairs, my daughter was playing and my son was playing a FIFA game, then I heard what sounded like two cars breaking.

“There was a massive thud and you felt it shake the building. It was shocking.

“I looked outside and you could see the car sitting on its side in front of our neighbor’s house.”

His wife said: “There were three people in the car.

“They crawled out of the car, pulled up the hood and just drove off.

“There was no concern for anyone’s safety and I am concerned that they will not suffer any consequences for their actions.”

“We had to evacuate the property,” she added. “The fire service told us ‘you need to get out if there is structural damage.’

She said: “They assessed it and eventually we were allowed back in.

“But the property damage will cost us a fortune.”

The car hit the outside of their home, and the couple revealed to T&A that the impact caused a massive crack in their bathroom wall.

“The whole house moved,” she said.

The husband added: “I’m surprised the car has stayed together as long as it has.

“It hit two metal frame fences but continued before stopping.

“It’s crazy to cause so much damage to these properties.

“We’re just thankful we’re all OK,” he said. “It’s better for the car to hit the building.

“We were just lucky no one was hurt,” he said.

“We could have been killed so easily.

“When the accident happened at 6.15pm, that’s the maximum time for us to throw the bin for the next day.

“Our neighbors could have been sitting outside or working in the garden.”

The man said firefighters responded “quite promptly and very quickly.”

He said they turned off all gas and electricity and then evacuated his family from the house to assess its safety.

He said the road was cordoned off while emergency services dealt with the situation.

A recovery truck came and recovered the car and he said everyone left the scene at about 9pm and the three families were left to pick up the pieces.

The family admitted: “We had a rough night.”

A large police cordon was set up while emergency services worked at the scene.

No injuries were reported, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.

Inquiries are ongoing to locate the occupants who are said to have left the scene before police arrived.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police were called at 6.16pm yesterday evening to Park Lane to reports that a vehicle had crashed into a house.

“Two occupants of the vehicle are reported to have left the scene before police arrived.

“Inquiries are being made to locate them.”

A spokesman for the service said: “On Monday 20th May at 6.22pm we were called to an RTC (road traffic collision) on Park Lane, Little Horton, Bradford.

“A car drove into a house. No one was injured. I made the place safe.

“We sent one (fire engine) from Bradford and one from Odsal.

“The police have been informed.

“I left the scene at 19.09.”
