The teenager could now be set for a first-team debut in years to come.

Liverpool announced on Monday that Keyrol Figueroa has signed his first professional contract.

He follows in the footsteps of his father, Maynor Figueroa, who made 214 Premier League appearances for Wigan and Hull.

The left-back, who retires in 2022, also won the FA Cup with the Latics and scored from his own half against Stoke in 2009.

At international level, Figueroa played in two World Cups and won 181 caps for Honduras, scoring five goals.

Although his son was born in the capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa, he has so far represented the USA internationally.

The teenager has scored nine goals in 14 caps for the U17 national team.
