Cornwall pub evacuated and locals told to stay inside after caravans catch fire

A pub in Cornwall has been evacuated after a fire broke out in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 22 May). The fire in St Day, a village near Redruth, involved two touring caravans, a shed, a fence, rubbish bins and a number of gas cylinders.

Two fire crews from Tolvaddon rushed to the scene shortly after 3am and used two hose reels and two breathing apparatus to battle the blaze. Other crews also attended, and planes inserted into hydrants were used on the fire.

The fire service isolated the electricity to the caravans and laid a 50m cord because of the gas cylinders involved. The Star Inn Vogue is understood to have been evacuated and other residents urged to stay in their properties.
