Dad’s homemade ‘killer recipe’ works in ’24 hours’ to clear driveways and patios

A savvy dad claims to have found a simple, homemade solution to combat weeds. He shared his “weed killer recipe” on a Reddit forum, boasting that it uses everyday household items and works wonders on driveways and paved areas in “just 24 hours.”

The user pointed out that this DIY weed killer is not only “much cheaper” than branded products, but also doesn’t harm wildlife. However, he cautioned that it may not be suitable for areas where you want other plants to thrive.

The recipe is simple: mix one gallon of vinegar with one cup of salt and two tablespoons of liquid dish soap. To keep the mixture as natural as possible, opt for an ecological dish soap.

Combine the three ingredients and transfer them into a spray bottle, ready to target the affected areas. After spraying weed-infested spots, let the solution soak in, the Express reports.

The high acetic acid content in vinegar dehydrates the weed, causing it to dry out and die.

For optimal results, use vinegar with a high percentage of acetic acid – ideally between 10 and 20 percent.

Likewise, salt acts to dehydrate plants and disrupt the internal water balance of plant cells. Because it is water soluble, it works best when mixed with a liquid and applied, making it easier for weeds to absorb.
