Joe Crann issues an update on Danny Rohl’s future at Sheffield Wednesday amid ongoing ‘discussions’

Joe Crann has published an update on Danny Rohl’s contract talks with Sheffield Wednesday.

Danny Rohl’s future has been in doubt for much of the year after attracting interest as he looked to save Sheffield Wednesday from relegation.

The German managed to keep the Owls in the Championship on the final day, losing just three of their last 16 games of the campaign.

Sunderland were initially linked with a move for Rohl, but their survival gave him a huge boost on Wednesday as they looked to keep hold of him.

It wasn’t long before reports claimed the Yorkshire outfit were in talks with their head coach over extending his stay.

Rumors of an exit have since died down, but until now it was unclear whether Rohl would commit to the club.

However, The Star journalist Joe Crann has now issued a “positive” update on his future.

He wrote of X: “Understand that discussions between #SWFC and Danny Röhl are ongoing but positive… Discussions on an extended and improved contract continue and both parties are keen to reach a deal.”

Crann reported that Dejphon Chansiri has met with Rohl since the 35-year-old returned from his end-of-season break, while both sides are “keen” to try and reach an agreement as quickly as possible.

With Rohl keen to stay at Hillsborough, it is now up to Chansiri to get a deal over the line.

Surely the only reason he would leave Yorkshire now is if the chairman didn’t want to meet his demands, such as getting a decent transfer budget this summer.

Chansiri has made a number of mistakes in recent years and now has to build on the brilliant decision to bring in Rohl last October.

The Owls could really get the manager to put pen to paper sooner rather than later as it will then allow the club to focus on next season.

It could also have a big impact on talks about the players’ current contracts, with some likely to stay at Hillsborough if Rohl does too.

The type of players he could attract to Sheffield Wednesday may also change depending on Rohl being here, while fans will feel much more confident in the coming years if the manager is already committed.
