A five-year-old boy has died following a collision with a car in Cornwall

A five-year-old boy died following a collision in St Austell on Thursday (April 25).

Police were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a Ford Fiesta on the A390 Penpillick Hill, near St Austell, at around 4.50pm.

The five-year-old boy suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car was uninjured.

The boy’s next of kin have been informed and are now being supported by specialist officers.

Police explained that the road was closed for around eight hours while emergency services dealt with the scene. It reopened at around 12.40pm on Friday 26 April.

Sergeant Phil Brown, from the Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are with the family following this tragic incident. They are supported by specialist officers.

“We would like to thank those members of the public who stopped to help at the scene.

“Officers are investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision and we would particularly like to speak to any witnesses we have not yet spoken to.”
